Dante, Divine Comedy*
1265-1321
First book in Europe to be written in a Colloquial, especially in Italian. It’s a stepping to stone to the Bible for the common people, because the people where staving religiously and politically . Rising of Romes, the falling of the Dark ages and the raising again of the Renaissance a rebirth. Their was a longing for literacy. The rich people thought that the common people couldn’t read, when really they could read, just not Latin.
about the author
He completed Divine Comedy, which depicts an allegorical journey through inferno, pergitory, and pardise, around 1314. Dante roamed from court to court in Italy, writing and occasionally lecturing, until his death from a sudden illness in 1321.
Dante’s personal life and the writing of The Comedy were greatly influenced by the politics of late-thirteenth-century Florence. The struggle for power in Florence was a reflection of a crisis that affected all of Italy, and, in fact, most of Europe, from the twelfth century to the fourteenth century—the struggle between church and state for temporal authority. The main representative of the church was the pope, while the main representative of the state was the Holy Roman Emperor. In Florence, these two loyalties were represented by the Guelph party, which supported the papacy, and the Ghibelline party, which supported imperial power.
On a general level, the kindness and compassion of Dante the character often contrasts with the feelings of Dante the poet, who, after all, has devised excruciating torments with which to punish his characters, many of whom are historical individuals with whom Dante was acquainted in life.

The comparison that I made between the Circles is that the 9 circles of Heaven could be the 9 plants, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, but Pluto is no longer considered a planet. 3 members of the god head, just like they're a
It’s interesting to me to see that in this text Christian calls on Greek gods.
And the many symbols that are present in the text. Such as Red=passion, white=purity, etc.
From what I can tell you have the historical context and then an analysis, is that right? The historical context portion is pretty clear, there are a couple rough draft errors that I'm sure you'll catch. The analysis section doesn't really read like a paper though, more like notes or brainstorming, they just start with no explanation or transition given. Of course, this isn't a big deal if it's just because this is your rough draft but it wouldn't flow well for a paper.
ReplyDeleteWow! You really have a lot of good information. Now for the final draft you just have to make it flow so that the reader can understand all that you are trying to portray.
ReplyDeleteBad question to ask, because I know the answer I'm just having trouble with it. How do I portray the information to the reader in a way that they understand?
ReplyDeleteI love the way you came up with your own deadly sins. I think that was a way creative idea and something I wouldn't have thought of for my personal reflection. I'm not sure I understand your whole list of facts and how you are turning them into an analysis though.
ReplyDeleteHA! It's brilliant! I'm so glad I read it. I'm glad I talked to you about it in class though it's a rather confusing text. When you get your paper back would you let me read the whole thing?
